Corgi CC60306 British Bedford QLT Command and Signal Truck - 21st Army Group, Northwest Europe, 1945 (1:50 Scale)
"After [El] Alamein, we never had a defeat."
- British Prime Minister Winston Churchill
The Bedford QL lorry was the most common British-made 4x4 truck produced, with over 52,000 supplied to the British Forces between 1941 and 1945. Many of these later continued in service with the British Army in Cyprus, Korea and Malaya. The first Bedford QL trucks rolled off the assembly line at Vauxhall's Luton factory early in 1941. They were powered by the reliable GM 3 -litre six-cylinder petrol engine.
Pictured here is a 1:50 scale replica of a British Bedford QLR wireless truck which was used as a command and signal van by the 21st Army Group during their advance through Northwest Europe in 1945.

Historical Account: The Bedford QLR was fitted with various ‘extras’ including special electrical suppression and was used for all command and communications as well as most office applications. Of the three basic versions the Command type had a Wireless Body version which was highly prolific and in itself had eight body types. A batch of Wireless Body No.1 allocated numbers L4919331 to L4919580 were delivered in 1943 and saw service with the 21st Army Group in Northwest Europe in 1945. One of them was also supplied to the RAOC, possibly for experimental purposes.
