The Federation

The USS Shenzhou (NCC-1227) was a 23rd century Federation Walker-class starship operated by Starfleet, under the command of Captain Philippa Georgiou. Prior to 2249, the Shenzhou was launched into service from the San Francisco Fleet Yards, Earth. Its motto was, "All existing things are really one."

The USS Discovery (NCC-1031) was a 23rd century Federation Crossfield-class starship operated by Starfleet, under the command of Captain Gabriel Lorca. Discovery was launched into service from the San Francisco Fleet Yards, Earth. By November 2256, it was still considered impressively new, fresh out of the shipyards, and equipped with some of Starfleet's most advanced technologies (in contrast with the relatively old USS Shenzhou).

The USS Kerala (NCC-1255) was a Shepard-class Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the mid-23rd century. It participated in the armed conflict against a Klingon fleet at the Battle of the Binary Stars in 2256. The Battle of the Binary Stars, also referred to as the Battle of the Binaries, was the opening battle in the Federation-Klingon War on stardate 1207.3 between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire.

The USS Europa (NCC-1648) was a 23rd century Federation Nimitz-class starship operated by Starfleet under the command of Admiral Brett Anderson. In 2256, the Europa was one of the nearest Federation starships sent to rendezvous with the USS Shenzhou‎ following contact with an unidentified Klingon vessel during the Battle of the Binary Stars in 2256.

The USS Buran (NCC-1422) was a Federation Cardenas-class starship operated by Starfleet in the mid-23rd century. In 2256, the Buran was commanded by Captain Gabriel Lorca. About one month into the Federation-Klingon War, the Buran was ambushed and boarded by Klingons. The ship and its crew were said to have been destroyed.

The USS Clarke (NCC-1661) was a Malachowski-class Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the mid-23rd century. It was destroyed in a battle against a Klingon fleet at the Battle of the Binary Stars in 2256.

A worker bee was a small utility craft in use by the Federation in the mid-23rd century. Both the USS Shenzhou and her contemporary starship the USS Discovery carried a complement of worker bees.

The USS Edison (NCC-1683) was an Hoover-class Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the mid-23rd century. It participated in the battle against a Klingon fleet at the Battle of the Binary Stars in 2256, where it was destroyed.

The Class C shuttlecraft was a commonly used Starfleet shuttlecraft during the mid-23rd century. From the mid-2230s to the mid-2250s, Class C shuttlecraft were utilized by Starfleet, and were standard across the fleet, including on starbases, Crossfield-class, Walker-class, and Constitution-class ships.
